is in one piece, with the skirt attached with pleats to the waistband and the attached
peplum
. The
dress
fastens in the front bodice with hooks and eyes.
Catherine Murat lived from 1803-1867, and died in Tallahassee, Florida.

She had given the
dress
to an African American family, but we do not know the name of the family members who preserved it for so many years. That is one more mystery to be solved.
A display celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Tallahassee Museum will open in late July and run throughl January, with the
dress
as a central feature of the event. The Murat home, Bellevue, was moved to the museum grounds a number of years ago, and the
dress
was part of the contents included in the items provided to the Tallahassee Museum.
